RDSP Co-Founder John Edward Lawson to be StokerCon Guest of Honor

Raw Dog Screaming Press (RDSP) is honored and thrilled to announce that author and co-founder of RDSP, John Edward Lawson, has been selected as a guest of honor for StokerCon 2022, which will take place in Denver, CO, May 12 to 15 at The Curtis Hotel.

Through RDSP John regularly helps authors find their audience, earn award nominations for the Stoker, Wonderland, and World Fantasy Awards, among others, and supports them with tips and tools to better their craft. In 2019 the press was recognized by the Horror Writers Association (HWA) with the Specialty Press Award. Lawson is also founder of AllAccessCon virtual events, Broadkill Writers Resort and workshops, and serves as Vice President of Diverse Writers and Artists of Speculative Fiction. He’s a strong voice for diversity in fiction and among writing communities. As an author, John has published sixteen books and has nine award nominations. He lives outside Washington, D.C. with his wife and son.

“When I began writing full time in August 1999, I had grand ambitions, but like so many people starting out, I couldn’t fathom what I didn’t know,” Lawson said. “Such as the fact that one of the most rewarding—and crucial—elements of a career in publishing is the community. Being part of StokerCon as an attendee, as a panelist and reader—that level of participating in community building gives me a thrill every time. But to be a Guest of Honor is an unexpected distinction, and I can’t wait to do my part in Denver to help bring members of the horror community the knowledge building, resource sharing, and camaraderie we have all come to expect from StokerCon.”

As a Guest of Honor, Lawson will be featured prominently in programming, promoted as a guest of the convention, and featured in the convention’s souvenir anthology. Other 2022 Guests of Honor include Earnest Dickerson, Gemma Files, Brian Keene, and Sheree Renee Thomas.

StokerCon is the annual convention hosted by the HWA to promote the horror genre, support professional development for horror writers in all media, provide a forum for sharing of academic research, and present the Bram Stoker Awards®. It is a venue for authors, editors, publishers, librarians, researchers, artists, and other genre professionals to come together, network, and strengthen the horror community. StokerCon is an inclusive event that welcomes people of all backgrounds and cultures who share an interest in or love for the horror genre. It includes many special programs such as a Librarians’ Day, the Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference, Horror University writing workshops, panel programming and presentations, author readings, and much more. Although their 2021 convention took place virtually, they expect the 2022 event to take place in-person. For more information, watch the HWA and StokerCon sites for updates.
