2008 Western MD Small Press Fair

Cumberland, MD • Sept. 6

The small press fair hosted by Frostburg State University and the Cumberland Library system was a truly exciting event. Everyone we met there was enthusiastic about books and publishing.

In his opening comments Gerry LaFemina explained that he wanted to create an event where publishers didn’t have to pay for expensive tables and where their often thankless hard work could be celebrated. We certainly felt appreciated while being treated to fabulous crab dip and gourmet cupcakes.

There were some great panel discussions including one on new media given by Sydney Duncan and Curtis Tompkins who work with American Fiction. It was great talking with Charlene Haines, an up and coming YA author. We also had a great time hanging out in the bookfair tent with Jesse & Kurt, students from Frostburg State.
