The Blair Witch Projected in Burkittsville

The Blair Witch Projected…in Burkittsville • August 12

While the 1999 classic The Blair Witch Project was set in Burkittsville, MD, and there was footage in the movie filmed there, the move was never actually shown in the small town before. The film was screened outdoors on the side of a barn, beside a cornfield, as a way to celebrate the film’s legacy and raise funds to help restore Burkittsville Union Cemetery.

We were invited to vend books during the event and we also had a contingent from the Maryland chapter of the HWA there to give out info. Eduardo Sanchez, the director of the movie, came by and bought some of our members books. It was eerie to watch the movie in an outdoor setting and not far from where the supposed events happened.
