It looks like we are going to have an entire room to ourselves for readings at HorrorFind on Friday from 6pm to 10pm. Cool! I’d love to come up with something to make the readings more appealing and fun but so far I haven’t thought of anything so far. It’s often difficult to get people to attend readings. Maybe we’ll have to take hostages. Hopefully I’ll get to videotape everyone so we can maximize the exposure.

We’re going to be a large group at this convention. Can we, as a group, go armed with postcards with details about the reading, and during the day before the reading walk thru the con passing the cards out? It seems annoying, but we should be able to use our numbers to communicate the news of our reading to a lot of people. At the very least, we should all mention it to anyone who will listen.

Also, can we invite people who don’t attend the con?

We should, if we do make a promo postcard, let people know something about what’s being read: telling someone the work is weird or scary or whatever does not distinguish us from anything else at the con. Maybe a line from each story/poem, or, pulp-style, a teaser line describing the story/poem?

Finally, we could also offer some kind of unique live event. If there’s a big enough audience, we could ask for object ideas from the audience (like “a blue balloon”) at the very beginning, and those of us who aren’t reading would furiously write horror stories/poems to read at the end of the night. This won’t work as well if the audience is small, because then we don’t get to be in our own audience. If all of us are reading in one room, that’s already a bigger audience than I usually get at these cons!

Booze might be a good idea, but AFTER the reading.
