Celebrating 10 Years

On June 20, 2005 the first issue of Apex Science Fiction and Horror Digest was released. It featured an original cover by Justin Stewart and new stories by MM Buckner and Lavie Tidhar. To celebrate Apex Publications, in league with Joseph Beth Booksellers, will be hosting an Apex 10th Anniversary Bash at the Joseph-Beth Booksellers Lexington location on Saturday, June 20th, 2015.

Plans are still in the works but here are some things that will definitely be included in the celebration:
*The release of FOR EXPOSURE: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A SMALL PRESS PUBLISHER.
*A reading from FOR EXPOSURE with a signing afterward.
*Door prizes throughout the evening.
*A Q&A with prominent Apex editors and authors (and sure, the publisher).
*Dinner with Apex from 6 to 8 p.m. with a special ‘Apex’ menu at Bronte’s Bistro.
*A cocktail mixer with Apex from 8 to 10 p.m. with a special ‘Apex’ shot and mixed drink.

A Recent Release from Apex Books

SMYS_largeIn her first collection of short fiction, Damien Angelica Walters weaves her lyrical voice through suffering and sorrow, teasing out the truth and discovering hope.

Sometimes a thread pulled through the flesh is all that holds you together. Sometimes the blade of a knife or the point of a nail is the only way you know you’re real. When pain becomes art and a quarter is buried deep within you, all you want is to be seen, to have value, to be loved.

But love can be fragile, folded into an origami elephant while you disappear, carried on the musical notes that build a bridge, or woven into an illusion so real, so perfect that you can fool yourself for a little while. Paper crumples, bridges fall, and illusions come to an end. Then you must pick up the pieces, stitch yourself back together, and shed your fear, because that is when you find out what you are truly made of and lift your voice, that is when you Sing Me Your Scars.
